HEALTH ADVOCACY: STATE OF THE INDUSTRY

The 1st WASHAA Annual Meeting provided patients, advocates, healthcare providers, and academic institution representatives from Washington State a unique opportunity to come together. There was networking, dynamic content, and interesting panelists talking about health advocacy
Panelists and Discussion Topic: 
What the Growing Field of Health/Patient Advocacy Means for: Patients, Providers, Academic Institutions, and Health Advocates Working in the Field

Our state is taking the lead in raising awareness, educating consumers and setting the professional standards for this important service. Attend the meeting and find out what is happening in health advocacy in Washington state and nationally. This promises to be an exciting and informative event: 
  •  Learn about the past, present and promising future of health advocacy 
  • Hear from a panel of patients, advocates, physicians and academic representatives about the impact of health advocacy 
  • Discover how the Affordable Care Act (ACA) affects health advocacy services 
  • Stay abreast the national effort to credential health advocates 
  • Learn about academic programs for people interested in becoming advocates 
  • Get involved with exciting WASHAA advocacy initiatives in our state 
  • Meet local advocates, patients and healthcare professionals involved in health/patient advocacy

  • Decreased malpractice suits
  • Decreased costs by shifting duties from clinicians to less-costly staffers

  • Service-focused innovation can be done rapidly and economically​ ​
  • Navigators + free/low cost mammograms = Increased 5-year survival from 39% to 70%
  • Decreased readmissions  (12.8% vs. 20%)
  • 30% reduction of older heart failure patient readmissions
  • $1 million/year Medicare savings
  • 31% reduction in private insurance readmissions
  • 10% reduction in Medicare readmissions
