"Misdiagnosis is more common than drug errors or wrong-site surgery" according to the Washington Post, yet it is only now being brought to the forefront of medical error discussions. |
From newborns to seniors, individuals can face wrong, delayed or missed diagnoses at any time; while at the physician's office or during a hospital stay, at the ER or during diagnostic testing, and pretty much everywhere within the healthcare system. Being able to detect a wrong, delayed or missed diagnosis can save time, money, and most importantly, lives.
How does one get the right diagnosis at the right time? What can patients, health advocates and clinicians do to ensure that proper medical diagnosis is achieved so patients can get the appropriate treatment?
